Dr. Rama Ramakumar is a Regents Professor and PSO/Albrecht Naeter Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, Oklahoma. He has been the Director of the Engineering Energy Laboratory (EEL) since 1987. The Eel organizes and conducts the annual Frontiers of Power Conference (in its 48th year in 2015) and the annual Energy Information Dissemination Program for engineers and engineering managers from the utilities sponsoring the activities of the EEL for over five decades.
He received his Ph.D. from Cornell University, Ithaca, New York in Electrical Engineering. Dr. Ramakumar has been involved in renewable energy systems research for nearly five decades at OSU. He has authored or co-authored over 200 technical publications, including four US patents, contributed chapters in four books and five handbooks and a textbook on Engineering Reliability.
Dr. Ramakumar was elected Fellow of IEEE for his contributions to renewable energy systems and leadership in power engineering education. He is a very active member of the IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES), serving as Chairman of several entities within PES. He received the Distinguished Service Award from the Energy Development and Power Generation Committee of the IEEE twice – in 1999 and in 2008.
His academic honors include the university-wide Burlington Northern Foundation Faculty Achievement Award and the college-wide Halliburton Outstanding Faculty Award.
