Dr. Wright currently holds the Anadarko Petroleum Chair Accounting and is Professor of Accounting in the School of Accounting in the Spears School of Business at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma. She specializes in the area of international petroleum accounting and petroleum contract economics and environmental accounting. She has been on the faculty at Oklahoma State University since 1982.
Dr. Wright received her Bachelor of Business Administration (Accounting) and Master of Professional Accounting degrees from the University of Texas at Arlington. She received a Ph.D. in Business Administration, with a major in accounting and minors in finance and economics from the University of North Texas in 1982. She is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and holds an active permit to practice in the State of Oklahoma.
Dr. Wright is actively involved in academic research, education, outreach and consulting regarding oil and gas accounting, environmental accounting, energy finance and oil and gas economic analysis. She has published countless articles, research monographs, seminars, presentations and speeches on oil and gas industry-related topics. Among her publications are numerous articles addressing applied research relevant to companies in the energy industry.
Dr. Wright served on the International Accounting Standards Board Advisory Committee on Extractive Activities and played a key role in the development of international financial reporting standards for companies engaged in upstream oil and gas exploration and production activities. Additionally, she routinely consults with the staff in the Office of the Chief Accountant at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission involving issues related to the oil and gas industry.
She is the author of two books Fundamentals of Oil and Gas Accounting (editions 4-6) and International Petroleum Accounting (1st edition). The Fundamentals of Oil and Gas Accounting book is the number one (internationally) best-selling oil and gas accounting book.
Dr. Wright has received numerous honors and awards for research, teaching and university service. These include the ASWCPA National Literary Award (1986), Oklahoma Outstanding Accounting Educator (2009), Oklahoma State University Regents’ Distinguished Research Award (2011), Oklahoma State University Spears School of Business Phillips 66 Service Excellence Award (2014), and Oklahoma State University Spears School of Business Richard Poole Faculty Excellence Award (2014).
